There are a lot of ways to design a life with friends.
You can buy a house together, like Palm on Deakin or Clarendon.
You can all just move onto the same block, like Parrot Bungalows.
You can buy a french castle, like Feytopia.
… but for a lot people who live in a dense, pricey city — the best way to get this done might be buying a duplex.
The beloved Duplex is one of our favorite live-with-friends configurations. You save money (duplexes are ~30% cheaper than single family homes per sq ft). You get your own private space. And you get to share life with a bud within baby monitor distance.
So how do you get it done?
We published a guide over at Live Near Friends featuring four models and talking through the financial and legal implications of each.
And if you are in the Bay Area (and coming soon to LA, DC or Austin…), Live Near Friends can help you find the perfect duplex and make it happen.
Thank you for this! The maximalist version of my Plex with Friends Dream is a SFH tear down/upzone. I know it’s an evolving regulatory landscape, but would yall consider writing about that path?
